Every New Year begins with loads of resolutions and best intentions. If you’re like me and over indulged during the Christmas and just had one Guinness too many you probably want to get back into shape.So you’ve bought the new trainers and all the best gear ready to shed those pounds gained over scoffing Christmas Pies! You might have also decided to give up the fags and stay off the drink for January and you’re thinking of joining the Gym.Hold your horses I say. My advice is not to take too much on all at once as you’ll just burn yourself out.
Here are 5 tips to help you maintain your goals so you don’t collapse in a heap somewhere outside a chipper!
- Plan an exercise routine. Get a diary and plan out when you intend to exercise during the week and what type of exercise you plan on doing.Don’t over exercise, Start off with 15 minutes of exercise and gradually build this up to a time you are comfortable with.
- Set realistic goals. I’m a big believer in the saying “Anything is possible if you put your mind to it” but take one step at a time.
- Reward yourself. If you like sweet things reward yourself with some (not a truck load) when you reach your weekly goal
- Motivation factors. Find out what motivates you, find a fitness partner who you can go to the gym with.
- Keep a journal. Of what you eat and what exercise you’ve done
